Responsibility in terms of data protection

“Personal data” means any information concerning an identified or identifiable natural person; that is, anyone who can be identified by reference to an identifier such as a name or identification number, or to one or more factors specific to their identity.

The Belgian Presidency and the GSC share responsibility for the personal data collected on this site.

The Belgian Presidency is responsible for all data protection matters relating to content published on this website, including the use of text, photos and videos, and for the use of cookies and subscriptions to email updates on the website.

When you access the information available on this website or via this website, the Belgian Presidency collects your anonymised IP address and information on your geographical location (continent, country, region, city) using cookies.

This site may also contain links to other websites. The Belgian Presidency has no control over these sites. We therefore suggest that you check their privacy policies.

Presidency Portal for Informal Events (PPI) and Eventify app

The Belgian Presidency is also responsible for data privacy matters related to the use of the Presidency Portal for Informal Events (PPI) and the Eventify app for communication during the events.

The names and email addresses of event participants will be forwarded to the PPI, managed by the General Secretariat of the EU Council, and the Eventify app, managed by JINT vzw.

Event participants can log in to these portals when they are accredited for a given event.

Participant data will be stored until the end of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 30 June 2024 in line with the GDPR.

Legal basis

The Belgian Presidency will process your personal data based on:

  • Article 6 (1) (a) of the GDPR, provided you have given your consent,
  • Article 6 (1) (b) of the GDPR, if processing is necessary for the performance of a contract or in order to take steps before entering into a contract,
  • Article 6 (1) (c) of the GDPR, if processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation to which we are subject,
  • Article 6 (1) (d) of the GDPR, if processing is necessary to protect the vital interests of the person in question or of another natural person,
  • Article 6 (1) (e) of the GDPR, if processing is necessary for the performance of a task assigned to us in the public interest or the exercise of official authority (e.g. responding to contact requests).
